Earlier this month we hosted dozens of school careers leads and staff, Governors, training and apprenticeship providers and employer volunteers for the Enterprise M3 Careers Hub Awards.
The celebration event, held at the Apollo Hotel in Basingstoke, was an opportunity for key stakeholders from across Hampshire and West Surrey to come together to recognise the innovative and inspiring careers education programmes and initiatives that are being delivered in our region.
Thirteen awards were handed out to an inspiring network of schools and individuals who are leading the way across Hampshire and West Surrey.
The Enterprise M3 Careers Hub Awards 2023 winners are:
- David Ross, The Vyne School – Careers Governor Award
David Ross was recognised for his work as a volunteer Governor to ensure that careers is high on the school agenda and his work to drive forward careers related learning, such as mock interviews and STEM activities.
- Kat Millmore-Davies, NHS 350 – Excellent Careers Speaker Award
Praised for her engaging and interactive sessions, Kat Millmore-Davies works hard to engage young people in understanding the wide range of roles and opportunities in healthcare. Feedback from schools highlighted how much students enjoy her visits and talks.
- Judith Moule, supporting Aldworth School – Exceptionally Committed Enterprise Adviser Award
Judith Moule was recognised for her exceptional commitment as a volunteer Enterprise Adviser. She has provided useful information and support to the school, including sourcing work experience for the students. She has also engaged and supported the wider work of the Enterprise M3 Careers Hub.
- Stephen Preece, supporting The King’s School – Exceptionally Committed Enterprise Adviser Award
As a committed Enterprise Adviser volunteer for five years, Stephen Preece was nominated by his Careers Leader for his dedication and pivotal role in providing support and direction to careers provision at the school, including during the uncertainty of the pandemic.
- David Watkins, Brighton Hill Community School – Over and Above Careers Leader Award
David Watkins was selected due to his willingness to share his expertise and provide coaching to other Careers Leaders within the Basingstoke cluster as well as his work to drive a careers section on his school’s website.
- Tom Corry, Chertsey High School – Over and Above Careers Leader Award
Tom Corry was recognised for his work to embed the Career Development Institute (CDI) framework into his school’s curriculum and his work to embed STEM experiences for 13-14 years olds. He was also nationally recognised, winning the Careers Leader of the Year Award at the CDI UK Awards 2023.
- Sandra Pinole, Thamesmead School – Over and Above Careers Adviser or Admin Assistant Award
Sandra Pinole was selected due to her dedication to careers education at Thamesmead School, alongside juggling vast amounts of administrative responsibilities. She also engages with local Cluster meetings, acting as a representative of the school.
- Freemantles School – Excellent SEN Careers and Preparation for Adulthood Programme Award
Freemantles School was chosen by the judges because of the high expectations and aspirations they have for their students and for delivering a careers programme that meets the needs of all students, including an inspiring work experience programme.
- Aldworth School – Most Innovative Careers Project Award
Praised for their World of Work week, which stood out as it sought to embed careers across all subject areas and involved site visits, projects, talks and the use of internal work experience. The school careers team also worked hard to engage parents and explain how it linked to the wider curriculum.
- John Hanson School – Most Innovative Careers Event Award
Recognised for leading on the set up of an Andover wide careers fair that has been running for several years. The judges were impressed by the effort the school makes to work with the wider community and that the event involves a number of schools and colleges from the surrounding area.
- Bohunt School – Excellent Careers Newsletter Award
The careers team at Bohunt were praised for their monthly newsletter which includes links to useful resources, apprenticeship vacancies, alumni success stories and more.
- Hinchley Wood School – Excellent Careers Website Award
The website stood out due to its enticing and informative content, helping students and parents understand future opportunities.
- Lorraine Petheram, Salesian School – Innovative Use of Compass + Award
Lorraine Petheram was praised for her work to transform the careers programme at Selesian School, firmly establishing a culture of careers throughout the school and implementing Compass +.
Commenting on the Awards, Professor Suzanne Dixon, Careers and Skills Manager at Enterprise M3 Careers Hub said:
“Careers education in our schools and colleges is vital – if we inspire young people now, they can go on to change the world for the better by embracing new job roles and emerging industries. Collectively, it is our responsibility, to get the education, advice and guidance right to make this possible.
“With so many exciting examples of projects and activity going on across the EM3 region it was an almost impossible task to select the winners. Congratulations to all our nominees and those who received awards, we’re proud to work alongside you.”
