The UK government and HMRC are urging UK business to prepare now for the huge opportunities available to them in the International market. At the end of this year we are leaving the EU Single Market and Customs Union, and this means there are both new challenges and new expansion opportunities for businesses and the opportunity to take advantage of global demand for British products and services. To prepare you for the complexities of selling internationally together with the new Importing rules that will come into force on 1st January 2021, (regardless of deal or no-deal), Surrey Chambers of Commerce is providing International Trade training courses.

The Introduction to Importing course* will prepare you for the new requirements in 2021 and will cover basic key areas of import and the key elements of international trade.

The course is ideal for for new importers, or for those who may want to refresh their current knowledge and will outline the fundamentals of the import process, including the additional documentation required and there will be ample opportunity for Q & A.   

This is organised in a virtual package comprising of a live webinar.

Delegates: This course is most suitable for new importers or people working in import but who have never received official training.

  • The Import Process
  • The new Customs requirements from 1st January 2021
  • Importer responsibilities and level of risk
  • Incoterms – What are they and why are they so important in determining risk
  • Tariff Codes and classification
  • Import documentation such as commercial invoice, packing list, shipping documents
  • Origin certificates and how to determine the origin of a product
  • Trade Agreements – How they work and why interpretation is key
  • Sanctions
  • Ongoing help and support from Surrey Chambers

Assessment: Optional formal exam can be taken to work towards a BCC 'Foundation in International Trade' award

About the Trainer

The course is being delivered by Linda Bazant, Barrister and Transition Consultant who specialises in advising clients on how to prepare UK businesses for the global stage post-transition.
She continues to help organisations to develop their internal processes to successfully handle the UK transition process.
She is a member of Gray’s Inn, the Bar Association of Commerce and Finance in Industry and The Institute of Export and International Trade.
